What is Somatic Schools?
Somatics Means Relating to the Body
Imagine a school year without bullying, fighting, or another school shooter drill. We know that when the health and safety of one child is at risk, it decreases the health and safety of all our children. This is why Somatic School's Kindness Systems work to activate a school system that encourages the physical, mental, and emotional health of everyone who embodies the school.
What is Kindness? Being kind to the self means we seek to make sure all of our basic needs are met. Kindness to the self requires curiosity, patience, and healthy boundaries. When a Kindness System is activated at your school, it means we seek to activate these things throughout the entire school system.
Intergenerational and Systems of Trauma makes activating kindness difficult for everyone! Somatic Schools has a plan to help! We work to help your school community build a Kindness System that aims to work for everyone by asking rather than assuming we have all the answers. Somatic Surveys assist school leadership with Asking tough questions to help everyone understand the barriers and solutions to community health currently present. We then help your school to form a Kindness Committee that anyone can join to implement the Kindness Solutions available within your school. We work to address community health issues in ways that feel safe and appropriate to those who live in your community. We also offer resources on trauma-responsive care, autonomic nervous system regulation, and a kindness curriculum that can easily be built into any physical health education program.
Who said healing intergenerational trauma and cultivating a culture of kindness had to be boring?! We sure didn’t! The Somatic Schools PlayNet offers 'Community Immunity' resources, games, and ideas to help everyone get excited about finding creative solutions to the problems we face-together! Kindness for ourself, others, and the PlayNet is possible if we believe we can all learn to Love.
